Why Do We Need This Data?

This data is used to run Discord, which is the ultimate goal behind all of this data. You do indeed have the ability to update your Privacy Settings, but a good example of what this information does is that it helps power features such as the Games Tab that you can find on the Play tab. I would like to take a look at what each folder in your Data Package contains, so let’s take a closer look.

You can easily open JSON files in Notepad, or you can simply drag and drop them into a browser such as Chrome or Firefox if you want to see what they look like. Several programs can open CSV files, for example, Excel or Google Sheets.

Account

There are a couple of different items that can be found in the account folder. There are two things that you need to know about your avatar. In the second file, there is a JSON file containing the following information:

  • Please let me know if you would like to receive notifications by email.
  • You can change the settings for the Games Tab by clicking here. You can subscribe to users, and you can opt out of users.
  • Your IP Address.
  • If you have any accounts connected to Discord, please let us know. (Twitch, Twitter, Steam, etc.)
  • Here is the Discord discriminator number you need to enter.
  • Listed below are any active sessions you have on your PC, Mobile, or Browser at any given time. (IP Address included.)
  • Your Friends list.
  • Your Block list.
  • Your Account Settings. (Dark Theme/Light Theme, Show Game Status, etc.)
  • Payment Information. (If you have subscribed to Nitro.)
  • Developer Information. (For any webhooks, bots, etc.)

Activity

There are four folders in the activity folder, each containing a JSON file with information regarding the actions you have taken on Discord since that folder was created.

  • In Discord, you can see an overview of your actions that have taken place within the application. Discord uses the information you provide to improve the quality of your experience on the platform.
    • Tracking analytics can be disabled here: User Settings > Privacy & Safety > Turn off the ‘Use data to improve Discord’ option.
  • This is data that we use for better tailoring certain parts of Discord to you, like the Games Tab in the sidebar.
    • Discord’s ‘Use data to customize my experience’ feature can be disabled here: User Settings > Privacy & Safety > Turn Off ‘Use data to customize my experience’
  • Detailed Reports – This folder contains data that we use to perform our day-to-day business operations, such as a JSON file containing the data. (Information such as messages sent, or your Nitro subscription, as an example.)
  • Trust & Safety – This folder contains some of the data we use to protect our service from bad actors. 180 days is allowed for this data to be deleted.

Messages

All of the messages that you have sent on Discord can be found in the messages folder. To keep track of these, they are broken down into separate folders for Direct Messages, Group Direct Messages, and Channels you have chatted with. This folder number is the Channel ID for where the messages were sent, which is listed under each folder. In addition to the JSON file, a full list of the folders that are included in the package can be found in a separate file.

There are a few items that you will notice when you select a folder from the list of folders. I will take a look at two of the files. The first will include a JSON file with information about what is contained inside; Guild IDs, Channel IDs, and Channel Names if the file contains messages from a server. Depending on whether the file is a DM file or a group DM file, the Channel ID as well as the User ID will be needed.

It is also possible to download a CSV file that contains the transcript of your messages. The table consists of four columns that are arranged in a different way

  • ID – The message ID
  • Timestamp – The date and exact time your message was sent.
  • Contents – Your message.
  • Attachments – A CDN link to any images, or files you included in your message.

You should know that if a message is manually deleted, it will no longer be stored in Discord as a part of your Data Package since it is no longer in Discord.

Programs

Listed under the programs folder, you will be able to find a quick breakdown of the various community programs we offer. In the JSON file included here, you will find information about any applications that have been submitted for the AMS Partners Program, AMS HypeSquad Program, and AMS Verified Server Program.

Using the information you provided, here is an example of a HypeSquad application that contains the information that you provided:

  • The referrer and referral code for HypeSquad can be found here.
  • HypeSquad Event information. Describe the kinds of events you attend, how long they last, and how often you attend them.
  • Country you are located in.
  • The Server you are applying under.
  • Your website.

It will depend on what information you provide, as well as which programs you have applied for, what information you include will be different.

There are a few things you need to know about the programs folder. The folder contains data that you provided through the website when applying for HypeSquad, Partner, or Verified Server programs. Please note that this section will be empty if you haven’t applied for any of our programs.

Servers

It is in the servers folder that you will find information about all the servers that you are a member of. Your servers are included in this list. In each case, there is a little bit of difference in the information provided. In addition to the JSON file, there is also one that contains a list of all of the folders that are included in this package.

In the folder that you own for a server that you own, there will be the following files.

  • Your uploaded emojis will be stored in a folder under this name.
  • The Audit Log file is a JSON file that contains information about the actions taken.
  • A list of banned users can be found in the form of a JSON file.
  • The JSON file contains a list of all the channels, their permissions, and a brief description of how they work.
  • Upon uploading the emoji, you will receive a JSON file containing the ID information for the emoji.
  • You will find in this file a JSON file containing the settings for your server (guild).
  • The JSON file contains the information about any webhooks you have implemented for your application.

As a member of a server, you will be able to find the following folders in the server’s shared folder.

  • It is a JSON file containing an audit log containing all of the actions that have taken place in your account over the past 90 days.
  • There is a JSON file that contains the server ID and name as well.
