How to Find Your Friends FAQ in Discord

What Is Find Your Friends?

The process of establishing a connection with your pals on Discord has just been significantly less difficult. We are excited to introduce Locate Your Friends, a feature that will allow you to locate friends on Discord by utilizing the contacts stored on your phone.

How Does Finding Your Friends Work:

Let’s pretend that Wumpus and Cap are buddies and that Wumpus has Cap’s contact information saved on his phone.

Because Wumpus and Cap are both using Discord and wish to make new friends, BOTH of them will need to opt in for it to be possible to locate them through the Find Your Friends feature.

If Wumpus turns on Find Your Friends, he will be able to locate Cap in a list of newly discovered friends and will be given the choice to send Cap a request to be his friend. It will resemble anything along these lines:

However,…

If Wumpus already possesses Cap’s contact information but Cap does not opt-in to be discoverable through Locate Your Friends, then Wumpus will not be able to locate him.

NOTE :

– We will not steal any names from your address book in any way. You will be given the option to manually enter your name if you want your friends to be able to recognize you more quickly; however, you are free to ignore this step if you so want.

How does Discord know my contact is using Discord?

If you have Locate Your Friends enabled on your account, Discord will periodically sync the phone numbers stored on your device with the servers that Discord uses.

The corresponding phone numbers have been hashed cryptographically. If you and your contact have both chosen to be discoverable, we will compare the cryptographically hashed data and identify a match when your contact also allows Find Your Friends. The names of contacts are never uploaded, and the raw numbers of their phones are never saved. Each individual user is responsible for manually entering their names into the programme so that their friends can recognise them. This method enables us to stop spam and ensures that you are only matched with people you already know; you will never be matched with anyone you have blocked. If you delete your Discord account or turn off the “Find Your Friends” feature, all of your contact information will be removed from the Discord servers.

We won’t use the information you provide to Locate Your Friends for any other purpose than to assist you in locating and inviting others to join Discord.

What happens after I disable Find Your Friends?

If you delete your Discord account or turn off the “Find Your Friends” feature, all of your contact information will be removed from the Discord servers.

We will not delete any existing friend recommendations in any direction, but we will not create any new friend suggestions either.
