Slash Commands FAQ in Discord
There are now slash commands available! There is no longer any need to speculate about how instructions operate or try to work out which ID belongs in which slot. The Slash Commands are designed to simplify and expedite several aspects of your gameplay experience.
WHAT ARE SLASH COMMANDS?
Slash Commands are the innovative and exciting new way to construct bots on Discord and communicate with them. Using Slash Commands, all you need to do to utilise your preferred bot is type the slash character (/), and you’ll be all set. You are able to quickly view all of the commands that a bot possesses, and validation and error handling assist you in executing the command correctly the very first time.
It’s possible that not every bot is utilising Slash Commands right now. Because they have just been released, it will be some time before software developers begin employing them. Hence, have patience, but prepare to be excited!
DISCOVERY
Everyone has tried using the!help command, only to be met with an overwhelming amount of text as a response. Now, you can view all of the commands a bot has to give simply by typing / rather than having to research a bot’s commands or reading through that lengthy!help answer. This makes it much more convenient.
This command list will filter commands as you type, making it easier to browse through the available commands or locate the specific command that you are seeking. You fast typists out there can also utilise the TAB and ENTER keys to choose and traverse through commands more rapidly.
AUTOCOMPLETE
We will provide you with a helpful autocomplete function for some values in the Slash Commands field. There is no longer any need to memorise ids. You can utilise the helpful autocomplete feature that you are familiar with and enjoy whenever you are prompted to select a user, a role, or a channel.
VALIDATION AND ERROR HANDLING
You can learn how to utilise bots with the assistance of slash commands, which eliminates the need to make the embarrassing error of putting the incorrect command into chat or typing it in the wrong way. In the event that you select an invalid choice by accident, we will let you know before the message is sent:
NEW PERMISSIONS
The Slash Commands pack a punch, but with that kind of power comes a hefty dose of accountability. Hence, in order to assist you in maintaining order on your server, we have provided a new permission called “Use Slash Commands.” By modifying the permission, you have the ability to deactivate slash commands for either the entirety of your server or for a particular channel.
Only instructions that were generated by bots are affected by the “Use Slash Commands” authorization. Commands that are “built-in,” such as /giphy, /nick, and /me, will not be affected by this change.
HOW DO I MAKE SLASH COMMANDS?
Check out our documentation if you’re interested in building your own custom Slash Commands and want to try your hand at it. You can either modify your already-existing bot to make use of the Slash Commands, or you can create a totally new bot!
