How to Add Emojis to a Discord Server

We can’t deny the fact that emojis and memes go hand in hand like bread and butter. We didn’t want your Discord memes to be pipe dreams, so we devised a clever little mechanism to keep track of all your emojis so that they are always there for you to use whenever the occasion calls for them.

Emoji Picker in Discord

It shouldn’t be too difficult to add an emoji to your message. Simply move your cursor over the button labelled Emoji Picker that is located to the right of your text bar, which is now greyed out:

Once the Emoji Picker has opened, you will be able to select your desired emoji from the list and even filter the options by utilising the buttons located at the bottom of the picker, which are as follows:

PRO TIP: Hold shift and left-click to place multiple emojis:

The Emoji Picker will categorise custom emojis according to server, making it simple to select the appropriate one:

You may find that certain servers include emojis that are greyed out as well as those that are universally available. When you see an emoji that is greyed out, it indicates that you either do not have permission to post that emoji on other servers or that it is an animated emoji.

You have the option of subscribing to either the Nitro or Nitro classic service in order to receive access to animated emojis and the ability to post personalised emojis worldwide.

Emojis that were produced on a server specifically for that server are known as custom created server emojis. Integrated emojis, also known as Twitch subscription emotes, can be used everywhere in the world.

Wumboji Upgrade

If they are given a little bit of room to expand, emojis will exhibit a larger version of themselves as they mature. When you type a message that has only emoji and no other characters, you will see the wumboji character instead.

You are permitted to use up to 27 wumboji in a single message before the characters begin to become unreadable due to crowding.

Note: While using the Compact mode, emoji will not wumboji themselves.

Adding A Custom Emoji in Discord

You can simply add unique emojis to your server in addition to the normal universal emojis, and you can sync with your favourite broadcasters to use their integrated Twitch emotes as well! Emojis are a great way to express yourself in the digital world!

You are able to add up to 50 unique emojis to your personal stockpile on your server if you have the permission to handle emojis or if you are the owner of the server. All you need to do is head over to your server. You can upload custom emoji for usage by everyone on the server by going to the “Server Settings” menu and selecting the “Emoji” option from there.

Keep in mind:

  • Emoji names need to be a minimum of two characters long and can only contain letters, numbers, and underscores.
  • You can upload emoji in sizes up to 128×128 pixels, but they will be scaled to 32×32 pixels before being shown. This allows for the best possible resolution for the emoji. In addition, the file size of the emoji cannot be greater than 256 kilobytes.

Note: Only the server to which you have uploaded your own emojis will be able to make use of them. On the other hand, if you have Discord Nitro, you will be able to use your own personalised emoticons in any server, group, and direct message that you participate in!

Without a subscription to Nitro, unique emojis can be utilised EXCLUSIVELY inside the same server on which they were initially submitted. If you try to enter an emoji that is stored on a different server, you will only see the text code for the emoji. You will see the following message if you attempt to select the emoji from the Emoji Picker:

Streamer Emojis

If you have subscribed to a few partnered Twitch streamers who have enabled their own custom emojis from their stream channel, you can sync your Twitch account to Discord and then use their custom emojis in any server you join! This is possible because Twitch and Discord are both partnered with Twitch.
