Discord Student Hubs Guidelines

Through the use of Discord Hubs for Students, students can validate their Discord account by using their official student email address, which grants them access to a hub that is reserved only for students at their school. Within the hub, users can connect with other students who have been verified, choose servers that are suitable for study groups or classes, and share their servers with other students so that they can join.

Note To All Hub Members

I would like you to be aware of the following:

  • There are no school or school staff affiliated with or managing the Hubs as they are independent entities.
  • There are student-run servers in a Hub, but there can also be servers run by non-students on the Hub.

Please read this note if you are the owner or moderator of a server in a hub

It is the responsibility of the server owner and moderator to ensure that their server is affiliated with the Student Hub. As a part of our mission, we empower and equip the communities we serve with the tools that will enable them to properly safeguard these spaces, ensuring that they do not engage in any violations and that they remain a safe and welcoming space for all. There are a few different features of Student Hubs, and servers must follow some additional requirements to meet those features.

Student Hub Guidelines

1. It is your responsibility to adhere to the Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Therefore, the moderators and admins of your server must address any issues that are reported to them. The moderator team and the Trust & Safety team should be able to identify when it is necessary to escalate issues. It is important to note that Discord’s Trust & Safety Team reserves the right to take action against servers that violate its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.

  • We want the Discord experience to be a positive, safe, and inclusive one. As part of our Trust & Safety team’s investigations into Student Hubs, we will investigate those reported to us or identified by us as likely to be violating our policies, and we may temporarily embed members of Trust & Safety team members with Student Hubs to investigate potential violations.
  • If an affiliated server or account has recently violated one of our Community Guidelines and has been subject to a penalty, we may remove it from the Student Hub.

2. Foster a healthy and positive environment. In your Student Hub and affiliated server, you should make sure that people feel welcome and comfortable. The main objective is to create an environment in which people feel comfortable spending time with each other, sharing interests, participating in community events, and building friendships with one another. Examples include:

  • There should be no content or behavior that is intended to single out, bully, or harass other students, faculty, or server users.
  • You are not allowed to discuss controlled substances or drugs in any way. Law enforcement may report you for this if you do this.
  • It is not possible to run servers devoted to using regulated goods, such as alcohol, on them.
  • It is important not to cultivate general toxic behavior or any other content that would be derogatory.

3. Ensure academic honesty. No content promotes, facilitates, or conducts academic dishonesty, including plagiarism, cheating, or other forms of academic dishonesty. Discussions in class and the formation of study groups are both encouraged and encouraged!

4. Do not host graphic or sexual content. In Student Hubs, graphic violence, and sexual content are not allowed as part of the curriculum. Student Hubs should have servers that are appropriate for audiences of all ages 13 and older, and should not have age-gated servers that are linked to the student hubs.

5. Have a server name and description that accurately describes the server that is free of profanity. In your Student Hub, you have the opportunity to explain to potential members why they should join the server you listed there.

6. Respect people’s intellectual property and other rights. If you would like to incorporate content, then you should only use content that you own or have a license to use. Be careful not to infringe upon the privacy of anyone, libel them, or in any other way violate their rights.

7. Have a moderator team. Having moderators on your Student Hub-affiliated server will help ensure that no rules are broken and will help you find meaningful ways to engage with your members. Build a team of moderators who can be trusted by your community members and can be resorted to in times of need. In our Discord Moderator Academy, you will be able to learn about the best practices for moderators.

In determining if a student account or server violates the Student Hub guidelines, we may consider off-platform behavior when assessing the account or server. If you see a server, account, or any content that violates our Student Hub Guidelines, please let us know by using the Student Hub App or filling out the form below.
