Discord Text Formatting Guide-Markdown Text 101 (Chat Formatting: Bold, Italic, Underline) in Discord
You want to spice up your regular text conversations, but you don’t know how? You’re in luck! Markdown is an easy-to-use formatting style for plain text that is used by Discord. It will assist you in drawing attention to specific sentences in your writing. This is the way to go about it! To modify your text, all you need to do is add a few characters before and after the text you want to change. I’ll illustrate my point with a few instances…
Sweet Styles in Discord
Italics | *italics* or _italics_ | Underline italics | __*underline italics*__ |
Bold | **bold** | Underline bold | __**underline bold**__ |
Bold Italics | ***bold italics*** | underline bold italics | __***underline bold italics***__ |
Underline | __underline__ | Strikethrough | ~~Strikethrough~~ |
Don’t feel like making use of markdown? Simply insert your message into the appropriate code block, and you will be set to go!
Code Blocks in Discord
1) Code blocks are another feature that can be used in Discord. By surrounding your text in backticks (‘), you will be able to create your own coding blocks.
2) You also have the option of use three backticks (“‘) in order to make multiline code blocks, such as this exquisitely composed haiku.
Block Quotes in Discord
Block Quotations are now supported in Markdown!
Following either > or >>> with a space is the syntax for using block quotations.
When placed at the beginning of a line of text, the > symbol produces a block quotation on a single line.
Putting >>> at the start of a line of text will produce a block quotation that spans multiple lines. The quotation will include all of the text from the >>> tag all the way to the end of the message.
And I think you get the point! You are now an expert at using the text markdown system on Discord. Put yourself out there and emphasize the points you’ve made!
PS: The use of spoilers is also a sort of formatting in Markdown. By surrounding your content with the phrase ||, you will indicate that it contains a spoiler. In addition, this is invalidated by a code block. Here you will find additional information on Spoiler Tags!
